Review - 'The Long Ride Home' by Danielle Lee Zwissler

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this book! I’m so happy I downloaded this book. I’m not sure why it’s free because it’s definitely worth money.
Holton always thought of Elena as a little sister and he believed that her childhood crush on him was just a crush. For Elena, however, her crush was love. An eight year age difference kept them apart for the longest time until an unexpected loss. Their friendship then morphed into a romance after Holton made a deathbed promise to her dad that he would take care of her. So he proposes marriage and she accepts. Their new relationship goes up and down all throughout the book. They both love each other but so many obstacles stand in their way, mainly his stupidity. It took a horrible accident for Holton to come to his senses and to prove his love for Elena. This couple certainly deserved their happy ending.
I thought Elena was a little immature at times but I understood her frustrations. She loved a man who didn’t love her back. Holton was just scared of committing himself to her and then losing her, which is an understandable fear, but he loved her for as long as she loved him.
I especially loved all the flashback scenes, especially the ones from Holton’s point of view.
The writing flowed well, except for the occasional POV shifts that confused me, and the descriptions were beautiful. It felt like a New Adult book but I don’t know if it was marketed that way. The book made me cry and my heart clench. I rooted for this couple so much. I haven’t read an emotional book like this in a long time. It was very refreshing.
5 Stars.
